Lewiston Ultra Events Presents
The Bow Valley Ultra

The Bow Valley Ultra is more than just a race—it’s a 100 mile celebration of our local trail network and a commitment to its long-term sustainability.
Working closely with Alberta Parks, Friends of Kananaskis Country, Bragg Creek Trails Association, and the Town of Canmore we’re focused on giving back to the stewards who care for these trails. Through sustainable practices and collaboration, the Bow Valley Ultra aims to protect the stunning backyard we’re privileged to run on while fostering a deeper connection between the trail running community and the environment.
The inaugural Bow Valley Ultra is planned for September 27 and designed to bring local athletes, trail enthusiasts, and runners of all levels together. Whether you’re an elite competitor chasing a personal best or a first-time ultra-runner seeking a new challenge, the BVU provides a platform for everyone to experience the beauty of Kananaskis. This race is about more than competition—it’s about creating an inclusive and accessible space for our local community to shine and grow together.
Registration opened softly on January 7th and we’re thrilled to see the excitement building. With a demanding course, breathtaking mountain terrain, and a community-focused atmosphere, the Bow Valley Ultra promises to be a memorable event that showcases the best of our local trails and the diverse runners who call this place home.
Join us in this celebration of resilience, connection, and the trails we love!
We acknowledge with gratitude that the trails making up the Bow Valley Ultra course are on the traditional territories of the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda), Tsuut’ina, and the Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika Nations of the Blackfoot Confederacy, as well as the Otipemisiwak (Métis Nation) of Alberta, Region 3. These lands have long been cared for and traveled by Indigenous peoples who hold deep knowledge and respect for the natural world.
We honor the stewardship, stories, and connection to these lands that have existed for generations and strive to walk with respect and care in our use of these trails. Thank you to the Indigenous communities who continue to inspire our commitment to protecting and sustaining these beautiful spaces for all who run, walk, and journey here.
May this race reflect our shared appreciation for these lands and the responsibility we have to preserve them for future generations.
Hiy hiy, thank you. It is a privilege.
The BVU 100 mile race route is an out-and-back course starting and finishing in the stunning town of Canmore, Alberta. The exact route is still to be confirmed and will take place on maintained and existing trails. Elevation gain is 5900 meters.
BVU gives back to Bragg Creek Trail Association, Friends of Kananaskis, Search & Rescue & other community/volunteer organizations and shareholders.
The BVU is committed to making a positive impact on the trails we showcase and the community that supports them. We’ve included a volunteer requirement for all participants as well as successful completion of a prior 50 mile race. These requirements are intentional—designed to foster accessibility, connection, direct support for our local trail stewards and ensure runners come prepared for the physical demands of the course while contributing meaningfully to the sustainability of the trails we love . Every runner has the opportunity to give back, deepen their understanding of trail stewardship, and ensure these incredible spaces remain accessible and sustainable for all.
Together, we can celebrate the trails we love while protecting them for future generations.
All course details, including elevation and route, are subject to change based on permitting requirements.
